ISOlation: Entry One

Why call it ISOlation?

It’s a play on the photographic term and our current situation. A It’s a play on the photographic term and our current situation. A collection of images I captured during this time and others that I’ve reprocessed from my photographic archive, along with my musings throughout the time.

We have been in a lockdown situation for the last couple of weeks. I have been spending time trying to finish redesigning this website. I’ve also spent some time trawling through my photographic archive and taking some shots around the house and in the garden. I also got back into writing again in this format. It was something I used to do quite a bit a few years ago.

I thought it might be worth trying to capture some of this period in a blog. I won’t plan to write a load of information about everything I’m getting up to. But pull together a snap shot of the images I’ve taken, the photos that have been reprocessed and any other news I would like to just inform you of. I’m sure, I will bring together a small project over the next couple of weeks and this will be the place where I can bring it all together.

I suppose I haven’t picked up my camera as much I thought I would. But I hI suppose I haven’t picked up my camera as much as I thought I would but I have been capturing a few things in the garden. Here are a few images that I’ve taken over the last couple of weeks.

During isolation, I have taken the time to look over my photographic archive. Like many other photographers. It’s given me the chance to pick out some shots I overlooked when I first shot them and reprocessed a few that were far from perfect. Like many other photographers. It’s given me the chance to pick out some shots I overlooked when I first shot them and reprocessed a few that were far from perfect. Some of them are key moments in my photographic journey, and others are just an indulgence of having time to look over them with fresh eyes and processing them accordingly. I have tried to sum up a few of them with a small story. Here are a few photos from my archive.

Melodrama, Ipswich Docks

I remember when I took it, I was in the middle of writing my dissertation. I had spent the day writing and went to meet a mate of mine at coffee link and took my camera with me for my walk down to Ipswich docks. The conditions were great, the sky lit up with colour as I walked down the hill and I was presented with this shot. So I’ve reprocessed it now, with the knowledge of the process I have from the past few years.

Exhale, Bawdsey

This shot was taken, right at the start of my photography journey back in This shot was taken, right at the start of my photography journey back in 2013. The photo marks one of the first long exposures where I used ND filters. It’s is far from brilliant, to start with I shot it in a jpeg format and that put it at a slight disadvantage in terms of processing. It was also one of my first trips out on a sunrise to Bawdsey Quay, but definitely cemented my love for long exposures. The conditions weren’t the best I’ve seen but it gave me a good basis for my photography.

The Pier, Southwold
Scour , Southwold

I took this shot way back in the summer of 2015, I had been on a trip for the sunrise with a friend of mine to Southwold. Probably one of the first I took this shot way back in the summer of 2015, I had been on a trip for the sunrise with a friend of mine to Southwold. Probably one of the first sunrise shoots we went on together. The conditions quite frankly were terrible. Pretty overcast as I look back at the set of images. I must have overlooked this one based on the processing it needed. It’s a lot more work than I would usually do on any shot. I was using a set of cheap filters from Amazon that left a dreadful colour cast. The details were slightly misty and there were some areas of the shot that were in need of removing. I have processed this in black and white now as it suits the scene more.

Wildlife Cameras

With more time on my hands, I’ve taken the opportunity to place my wildlife cameras around the garden. I have 5 trail cams placed in the garden to capture the creatures. I will review the footage, over the coming weeks and post some of the footage on here.

I hope you’ve enjoyed it, Let me know what you think.  Stay Safe, and stay at home!
