Thank You.

Thank You.

I got my results a few weeks ago, it's official I passed with a 2:1 in Graphic design. As my three years of university comes to an end, I don't think it has sunk in yet. It's been an interesting few weeks, having finished University and my internship. My future is yet to be defined, as I go on the search for a job in the design industry. I would like to thank all of those people who have supported me on my journey to this point. Whether you've seen me on a day-to-day…Read more

Jack of all trades.

Jack of all trades.

Sorry, I know I pledged a few weeks ago that I will be posting more regularly  but I have been juggling being ill and trying to finish all the important university work left to hand in. So here's to more posts (hopefully) from now on. University teaching has official finished and one of the last things we had to do as part of our dissertation module was a secondary module called Critical Review. This module was both a reflection of our educational journey to this point and a chance for us to explore our…Read more
It’s been a while!

It’s been a while!

I thought I would just touch base with you all, and say I'm now back with a few ideas to write and release some blogs over the next few months. I know it’s been a while! University work had to take a bit more of a priority. So a lot of different things have been happening here and my course is nearly at the end. I have handed in my dissertation and collaborative project and am now focusing on, employability; designing my portfolio; website and planning for the end of year show. As…Read more
Blink auction website goes live.

Blink auction website goes live.

So the Blink Auction website is live now,  you may remember that I spoke about the project in late December as we started the process of designing the branding and website for it. The auction is to raise funds for our end of year show this summer; the work has kindly been donated by some illustrators and designers. As part of the work on the website, it has been a chance to learn and explore designing a website for E-Commerce. We have been working mainly on designing the website with many considerations to the content we should…Read more
Design, Mr Bond.

Design, Mr Bond.

As a kid the James Bond film franchise captivated my mind as I watched on, by the age of 12, I had seen all of the bond films released to that point. The design of the whole franchise is something I haven't been able to critique as a design student. In particular the logo that has been used from the start, in 1962, with the film ‘DR. NO.’ It has taken on a number of changes as technology has improved, the shape of the design has sharpened, and improved. As a graphic motif,…Read more
Form Follows Function.

Form Follows Function.

In my first year of university, in a module called history and context of design; we were tasked as part of a group, to give a presentation on a topic of our own choice. Using a Japanese presentation style called Pecha Kucha, which are 20 slides for 20 seconds. The group was made up of me, Jamie and Dan. We chose to research and present on the Bauhaus school and its influence on the students and tutors work. Our Presentation. Reflecting on this task as part of my journey as a graphic design…Read more
What a Gentleman.

What a Gentleman.

Two weeks ago, we were lucky enough at UCS to have a lecture by the Illustrator, Artist and Designer; David Gentleman. His work has spanned the past five decades, from designing stamps to illustrating tube stations. He highlighted the fact many people will have seen his work before, whether it be in Charing Cross station or on the book jackets for a series of Shakespeare plays published by Penguin but without knowing it’s him. He was a very unassuming man with such a passion for his work, as he spoke about his new…Read more

As it is our final year, our year group have the task of raising money for the end of year show. We have been planning an online auction that will feature works from Illustrators, Designers and Graphic Artists. Over the past couple of weeks emails have been sent to ask for some work, and we have been lucky enough to get some replies with offers of pieces to sell. You can be a part of it by buying some of the work that will be offered online. Within this project, we are collaboratively…Read more
Raising my Games.

Raising my Games.

So I haven't written for the past couple of weeks; it has been a busy time at University. Two weeks ago, a group of us took a trip to London to visit the ‘This is' exhibition, at the Conningsby Gallery in London's West End. The exhibition was put on by the previous third years at UCS. Having been to the private view it was really good to go and see the work of the students who have recently graduated, in October. It was a time to consider where I may be in the…Read more
